Rob got a chance to attend the 2007 Oregon River Games. He missed out on the Friday river race at Canyon Creek in Washington, but on Saturday, he made it to the upper Clackamas River and was able to join in on the fun. He participated in a playboat clinic that included a run from Carter Falls to Bob's Hole with Josh Bechtell, and Kyle Frye. Rob had a chance to observe some incredible paddling and playboating techniques, not to mention getting dizzy watching Josh effortlessly do cartwheel after cartwheel. Check out the "org2007 playboat clinic" pictures in the Gallery. Thanks for the over the top, 1:1 attention, Josh!

As we were leaving Saturday night, Rob was invited to stay at the river and hang out with the kayaking community. Rob enjoyed himself and got to know some of the people he's hoping to be traveling river to river with someday. The next morning, Rob volunteered with the rest of the gang and helped the vendors set up the festival area for the coming day. All of the volunteers were fed a hot breakfast of french toast for their efforts, provided by Philadelphia's Steaks and Hoagies in Milwaukie. There's no better way to start a day on the river then with a full, warm stomach. Thanks guys! The whole family also had a chance to try out some of their Philly Cheese Steaks that day and, WOW, what a treat. I haven't had one of those so close to the original since I left the East Coast over 10 years ago.

Rob participated in the Hard Shell Kayak Boater Cross and had a blast smacking boats and paddles with the pros. Officially, he took third place, but in reality, he brought up the rear of the competing paddlers. Rob had an awesome time getting in the river and playing in the hole with the gang. It was a great intro to competing. Take a look at the pix in the Gallery in the "org2007 boater cross" album. Special thanks to Matt Solomon,  Josh Bechtell, Corey Volt, Christina Russell, Kim Russell, and Todd [if anyone knows Todd's last name, please tell us This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ]z

Christina Russell then gave generously of her time and did a Clackamas run from Fish Creek to Bob's Hole with Rob and then spent a considerable amount of time working on playboating techniques at Bob's Hole. Christina, we appreciate your attention and generosity. Rob sincerely hopes he gets a chance to paddle with you again soon! Get a look at Christina and Rob in the Gallery in the "org 2007 fish to bob's" album.
