Nate and the gang are running Canyon Creek today at 1150 cfs, which is almost double what I ran it my first time down, but I still decided to join them. I met Nate at his house around 9:30. We packed our gear and boats on his truck and went and picked up Mike and Matt. Eric met us at the take-out. We put his IK in the truck and headed up to the put-in. We got in and played around on the wave at the put-in for a little bit to warm up. Once we were ready, we headed down to the gorge. We got through Swizzle Sticks without any problems but Matt, Mike and I all got stuck in the hole at Terminator. Unfortunately, Mike’s knee popped his skirt and he and to climb out of his boat as it filled with water. Other than Mike, there were no other swimmer’s and I don’t really count that as a swim anyway.  Everyone was running the sneak line at Thrasher but I wanted to take a look at it so I climbed out and scoped it. I thought it looked pretty good but I guess I was wrong. When I tried it, I melted right down into the hole and got a pretty decent beat down but just held on during the beat down and I flushed out eventually. The boulder gardens were no problem for anyone. When we got to Big Kahuna, everyone except for Nate got out to look at it. He just ran the flake line and styled it without a problem. Matt ran it next without any problems. I ran it next and missed my left boof stroke, but got a little right boof and didn’t have any problems either. Mike and Eric were the last two and they both stayed upright throughout the whole thing. I’ve never seen such a skilled IK’er (inflatable kayaker). Champagne and Hammering Spot were next. Nate got a little beat down in Champagne but everone cleared Hammering Spot. I found a bent shaft Werner carbon paddle after Hammering Spot with no name or identifying marks on it. I asked Eric to carry it out for me. Since he was in the IK it was a lot easier for him to just stick it in the back of his IK. The flat water section, to no one’s surprise was tiring, but it’s always a good work out. It was a great day for Canyon Creek. There were 3 other groups besides us that ran it that day. I’m just glad I got to get on it at higher flows so I was prepared to run it at any flow in time for the race on April 12th. When I got home, we posted a found paddle notice on pdxkayaker.org. On Sunday, Jerry called and identified his missing paddle and Bomber Gear pogies. Yeah, together again!
