Saturday Dad and I went to early to the Wind River to set up parking and do an early practice run which went really well I only got stuck in initiation that was only because of running into Erik on a cataraft and losing all my speed. Every other rapid was easy to run and I didn’t have any troubles through Climax or Rams Horn. But other than that it was a good practice run the last mile or so I paddled nonstop for a good work out.

The day of the race I showed up at around 8 there were no kayakers at that time although most of the catarafts and rafters were there. Only a few more showed up after that the kayakers didn’t show up until later the first to race were the long boats and with only 3 in that class it wasn’t long before the short boats were up. We all lined up in the eddies along the river bank to get ready for the starting whistle. On the whistle everyone sprinted to get ahead of everyone else it was like a boatercross for the first 100 yards   before we finally started to some distance between each other, Greg Mallory was way out ahead but that was to be expected. He was after all a handicapped Olympian, this guy had so much upper body strength combined with upper body endurance that made him an exceptional kayaker. I was neck and neck with Tony Skirvanek until I sucked in the hole at the end of initiation. After getting out of that hole I had to pass Luke Spencer and Roberta Grant and once I had passed them I finally started to catch up to Tony when I hit Rams Horns sideways and got surfed in it for around 20 or so seconds but by that time I was far enough ahead of Luke and the rest I came out just as Luke passed me and again I had to get passed him this time I was pretty beaten from clawing my way out of Rams Horn it almost didn’t happen. When I got to Climax I decided to play it safe and go way right I lost speed but by that time I don’t think I had enough energy to make the boof stroke at the right time. In the end I only cam up about 30 seconds behind Tony I don’t think it was my best but I certainly tried after getting stuck in two holes during the race.
